I hear the crow
on the tin roof
nest building
twigs are falling
out of the sky of song
the trees sigh
out of the mouth
of the invasive vine
a rhythmic sway
without the dance
my hands feel
the green pulse
my voice
a soft lament
slowly dying.

THE FISH IN THE
DOCTORS WAITING ROOM
Without realising it
I was being stared at
from the germ free aquarium
next to the
water cooler
and the stack of
Hollywood celeb
magazines
previously perused
by a thousand hands.
The fish with
bulging eyes
appeared genuinely
happy to be there
obliviously enjoying
a run of
good health by
showing off and
swimming through
a hole in the rock.

So there we were
back then
lying
in bed
did we do it all
for love
I'm ambivalent
even now
years later
what else
was there left
to say after all
the sad cliche's
we conceded to
the silence
in the darkness
of contemplation
admittedly
I searched for
hopeful answers
and you were brave
submitting to
the inevitable
truth
before
we closed our
eyes to sleep.
